In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was the first inventor to successfully create the telephone. His biggest rival in the race to invent and patent the phone was Elisha Gray, who Bell only beat by a few hours. At first the new phones were only available to businesses, hospitals, and police stations. By 1877 the Bell Telephone company was created and founded. in 1915, Alexander Graham Bell was able to make a phone call from San Fransisco to his friend Thomas Watson who was located in New York City.
